MEZZANINE FLOORS

A mezzanine floor is a raised platform which when erected allows you to to take full advantage of the height within your building to expand your business in an extremely cost effective way. Mezzanine flooring offers additional storage space without adding to the building footprint
Design
All our mezzanine floors are tailor made to suit the individual needs of our customers. Column grids can be as large or as small as required to optimise your particular operational requirements. The main constraint on the size of the grid will normally be the ability of your concrete floor slab to resist the imposed loads of the mezzanine columns.
Building Regulations
Our mezzanine floors comply with BS5950 parts one and five and BS6399. They are also required to comply with current building regulations. Approval is sort from your local Authority or an Approved Inspector, and the local fire officer. Our experienced in-house design team will be happy to handle these approvals for you.
Decking
The decking or floor surface can be chipboard, open steel grid or steel plate. For particle board applications we use a 38mm thick, tongued and grooved, high density industrial floor panel which can be supplied in a number of hard wearing finishes including natural, non-slip grey, 'flek' or lacquered. The underside of the deck can also be finished in a white melamine to improve the light reflecting qualities of the board, or in a white or silver Class 'O' foil.
Handrails
For safety reasons, all open edges of Mezzanine must be protected by a physical barrier. This will normally be a hand and knee rail system, 1.1m high, fixed around open edges of the floor. A number of designs and finishes are available. Choose form tubular, square, stainless steal, chromium plated or galvanized handrail, depending on your preference. The system is supplied with a galvanised steel kick plate as an additional safety precaution. Mesh or perforated steel infill panels can be added, with their height extending to 3m or more, as required.
Access for People
Access to the platform for people will require a stairway, which can be supplied to either Approved Document K or M as required. We have two standard widths with non-slip threads and integral handrails.
Access for Goods
Access to the platforms for goods will require some form of lifting device; a conveyor, a goods lift or a fork lift truck. In the case of the fork lift truck a pallet gate will ensure that no one can fall off the floor when it is being loaded and unloaded.
Other Accessories
Bridges, walkways and access ladders can be added to improve access or functionality. Bridges are popular for navigating conveyor systems, walkways can connect two mezzanine floors with a single building.
Fire Protection and Enclosures
Cladding added to the steelwork will provide fire protection and improve appearance. Up to two hours fire protection can be achieved. SDE Ltd also supply/design staircase enclosures (see top right picture)
Office or Storage?
Storage and work space applications tend to dictate open platforms, office space would involve adding partitioning. We can supply a wide selection of partitioning products to suit your needs.
